With the future in mind, the 9th graders have helped to create a "time capsule" as a message to those who may open it in the future--set to be opened in the year 2030. Part of our intention is to share a unique and personal view of what life was like for these students and teachers at this moment in time. In the time capsule, those who open it will find photos, a video made by the students, letters from the students and teachers, as well as several other mementos and items of importance to us in some way.
As it was another recurring theme for every one of us, many of the contributions to the time capsule were items connected to the Covid-19 pandemic (i.e. masks, pamphlets, hand sanitizer, etc.); however, among this grim perspective, we have also included positive wishes for those in the future as well as reminders that not all moments of this pandemic were bad. We have found new ways to connect with each other, and we have learned the importance of the friends, family and mentors in our lives. Many of the students--not all of course--have even found a new appreciation for their school and teachers. ;)
Hopefully, the takeaway from this project will be an encouraging message and even potentially a reminder to focus on the positive moments in life. And if you happen to find yourself in the area in the year 2030, you might consider making plans to be here for the opening of the time capsule. I hope to see you all there!
Best wishes to you all and to a positive future! :)
